Ground seeds of a mustard plant, which is a member of the cabbage family. Mix with water to form a paste to make Chinese hot mustard. Some like to add vinegar. Delicious as a dipping sauce for egg rolls and barbecued pork. Dip a small amount until you see how your mouth and sinuses react to the heat.
Recipe: 1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup hot mustard powder, 2 tsp sesame seed oil or cooking oil, 1/2 tsp salt. Bring water to boil, combine mustard, oil and salt; stir boiling water into mustard mixture. Makes 1/3 cup.
