Powdered version of dried turmeric related to the ginger root. Has a bitter, pungent taste and a bright yellow-orange color. Adds flavor and color to East Indian cooking an essential ingredient in curry blends. Also goes well with beans, lamb, lentils, and paella. Often referred to as Indian Saffron. Turmeric is the spice that adds color to prepared mustard, yogurt, yellow cakes, popcorn, cereals, and gelatin. Grown in India, China, and West Indies.
